Years ago, my cockatoo started self-mutilating. Before knowing about BirdSupplies, my bird had to wear hard plastic "cones"...Neither I nor my bird was happy about this! My vet told us about BirdSupplies and suggested trying a soft collar. I tried a couple different types of collars that BirdSupplies offered, before settling on the Fringy Cone Bird Collar that works great!

Some birds need help adjusting to wear the collar. Download my free guide about feather plucking and bird collars now.

We try to offer our collars in soothing colors that match their plumage. Our best sellers are light blues, yellows, and grey.

However, there continue to be supply chain issues and many fabric patterns change seasonally.

Most birds quickly get the hang of wearing the bird collar, usually within a few days. We suggest giving it a try when you have some quality time to spend with your feathered friend, making sure they can move, eat, and drink comfortably with the collar on. Don't forget to grab our free book to help your feather plucker adjust with ease! 😊🐦

Birds, equipped with sharp beaks that can crack open nuts and nimble feet, can be quite destructive, posing a challenge in potentially destroying bird collars.

In particular, birds with severe plucking or self-mutilation tendencies can be relentless in trying to remove collars to feed their addictive compulsion.

Recognizing this risk, we strongly advise a proactive stance: reinforce collars with bird-safe bitters and fortify closures with durable moleskin.

To further safeguard against there determined efforts, consider additional measures like having a Saf-T Shield on hand, using over the counter bird calming supplements, or exploring prescription grade medications to calm the compulsions. Vigilance and creative solutions will help ensure the effectiveness of the collars in curbing self-mutilation behaviors.

Sizing Guidelines Misleading -NOT FOR SMALLER BIRDS

I have a 160g caique. Guidelines show 100-299g for size small and lists birds like starlings which are smaller than caiques. All listed as "small" examples.

Size small collar itself is slightly over 30g.

It is MASSIVE and super heavy. Need a really good pair of sharp scissors to make it usable and safe for smaller birds.

I would not recommend this product for birds under 200g.

Vet recommended for Green Cheek Conure who plucks discrete areas of her body. Weight is too much for her. Cant move, bumps into things, loses balance, and doesnt eat or do normal bird behavior wearing it. Draws more attention to preening and sensory stress. I dont like velcro, bird knows how to get it off and moleskin adds even more weight to an already bulky collar. Not hopeful this will be a solution for her. Trim to help it fit her. She fell over in it and I havent put it back on

Poor refund policy for collars specifically. Since theyre expensive its a huge loss if it doesn't work out or if one does work well its a big expense to continue buying new ones as they wear out. I wish I could spend what I spent on this collar on another Bird Supplies supplement instead.

Collar seems different than photo, fringy part doesnt have loft it lays flat

I hope this collar is more helpful to another bird. 2 stars it does stop mine reaching feathers but cant do anything in it

Ordered wrong size.

I spoke with you a few days ago concerning this item. First of all, i ordered a large and should have ordered a XL. I’m returning this unused item and wish to have the refund. Then I’ll order the XL. I mentioned improvements but the items were nothing new to you.

Since my cockatoo tries to bite his feet and his wings, I suggest going with one size larger than the size chart recommends (the size chart recommends a medium; however, I purchase a large). Cockatoos are very smart and teach themselves sneaky ways to get to the areas they want to mutilate; but the larger size collar helps prevent this. The only problem with the larger size is that the neck hole is too large for my bird. My suggestion to BirdSupplies is to make the neck hole smaller, but allow the customer to trim it to customize the hole size as needed.
