UnRuffledRx Velcro Cone Bird Collar

Something caught your attention — a bare patch, some broken feathers, your bird going back to the same spot. Worried enough to look for answers, you're in the right place.

The UnRuffledRx Velcro Cone Bird Collar is designed for exactly this moment. It's the gentlest intervention in our collar lineup — a soft, 4-layer fleece cone that creates just enough space between your bird's beak and body to interrupt the reach-preen-damage cycle, without the stress of a rigid plastic cone.

Catch it early. That's the goal.

Is This the Right Collar for Your Bird?

This collar is a good fit for mild to moderate pluckers — birds focused on one area with feather damage but no open wounds or skin injury. It's the most comfortable option in our lineup for birds that need daily, long-term wear.

It may not be the right choice if:

  • Your bird is sickly or immunocompromised
  • Your bird is a senior with reduced tolerance for wear
  • Your bird is plucking across multiple areas or has skin damage (the Fringy Cone or BeakGuard Vest will serve them better)
  • Your bird can already bend around softer collars

Trusted by vet clinics across the country and thousands of parrot owners — the Velcro Cone is one of our most prescribed collars for ongoing feather plucking management.

What Your Bird Experiences

Four layers of thick, premium fleece — soft against feathers, warm, and quiet. No hard edges. No plastic. The cone shape gently limits reach without pinning wings or restricting normal movement. Your bird can still eat, climb, perch, and play.

The Velcro closure makes it easy to put on and take off. If your bird figures out how to loosen it, a small strip of moleskin over the closure reinforces the hold — we include guidance on this with every order.

Why Thousands of Bird Owners Choose This Collar

  • Soft fleece is far better tolerated than rigid plastic cones
  • Lightweight enough for daily wear without exhausting your bird
  • Interrupts early habits before they become entrenched cycles
  • Gives feathers and skin a chance to recover
  • Made in the USA by UnRuffledRx — designed specifically for parrots

One Important Thing

This collar reduces access so feathers can recover. It does not address the underlying cause of plucking. For lasting results, use it alongside enrichment, foraging opportunities, improved diet, calming support, and behavior guidance. We have resources for all of these — ask us.

Quick guidance:

Mild to moderate plucking focused on one spot? Start here with the Velcro Cone.
Breaking feathers, reaching multiple areas, or seeing skin damage? Move to the Fringy Cone.

My lovebird has had a mild plucking condition for many years, but in the last two months, it got worse and she started picking at her shoulder. I have tried many other soft collars but she chewed through them in a day. This Velcro bird collar is so much better. Thank you so much for the great product.

Product Questions

Use it when your bird starts plucking or during known trigger times.

Mild to moderate pluckers usually haven’t developed a compulsive habit, so you have some flexibility. You don’t need it on all day.

Watch for patterns—alone time, routine changes, late-day restlessness—and use the cone during those windows.

Never use it as punishment. It’s just there to interrupt the behavior while you redirect your bird to something better.

That’s normal at first. The cone feels unfamiliar against the feathers, so your bird will try to remove it.

What to do:

  • Use moleskin to improve velcro grip and comfort
  • Make sure the fit is right. The neck should allow a bit of room for when the crop expands after a meal. The perimeter should allow for walking without tripping over the collar. Trim between the two seams if necessary.
  • Put it on during calm moments so your bird can adjust. Praise your bird for calm behavior while in the collar.

What not to do:

Do not use metal clips, paper clips, or staples. These are unsafe and can lead to injury or heavy metal exposure

The goal is a secure, comfortable fit your bird can tolerate—not force.

We try to offer our collars in soothing colors that match their plumage. Our best sellers are light blues, yellows, and grey.

However, there continue to be supply chain issues and many fabric patterns change seasonally.

Yes—once your bird is used to it and moving normally.

Lower perches to reduce fall risk.

make this clearer. more agentic friendly and natural language

If your vet ruled out a medical cause, the plucking has likely turned into a habit. Your bird goes back to the same spot because it’s familiar—not because it understands the damage.

The Velcro Cone helps blocks access, but it doesn’t change the habit.

To actually reduce plucking, change what your bird does in those moments:

  • Reward calm behavior, eating, playing, and resting
  • Add foraging and simple, structured activities
  • Use calming support if your bird is easily triggered
  • Be consistent so your bird learns what gets attention

Avoid reacting to the plucking itself. Even correcting it can reinforce the behavior and keep it going.
