You can serve them soaked or sprouted. For a quick option, soak the seeds in fresh water for 6–8 hours, then rinse and drain thoroughly before serving. Soaking softens the seeds and begins the germination process.

For fresh sprouts, soak the seeds first, then drain and rinse them 2–3 times daily until small sprouts appear, usually within 1–2 days. Always drain well between rinses and give them a final rinse before feeding. Discard any sprouts that develop an unusual odor, slime or mold.

Clean, fresh and well-drained is the key. Soak the bird sprouting seeds in fresh water for 6–8 hours, then rinse thoroughly and drain completely. If you’re growing sprouts, rinse and drain them 2–3 times a day and never let them sit in standing water.

Sprouts should smell fresh and look crisp—not sour, slimy or fuzzy. If something seems off, toss them and start over. Once ready, give them a final rinse, drain well and serve a small portion to your parrot or other pet bird. Refrigerate any extra sprouts and use them promptly.
