What Size Fringy Neck Collar Does My Bird Need?

Available in Medium and Large. Choose your bird's collar size by weight in grams, then check the wrap measurements. Birds of the same species can have different neck and body proportions.

Step 1: Find Your Bird's Weight

Use your bird's weight as a starting point for selecting the Fringy Neck Wrap Collar.

Medium

250–450 g
1.5" high × 7.75" long

Large

450–850 g
2.5" high × 9" long
Important for smaller birds: The Fringy Neck Wrap uses 8–10 layers of thick fleece to limit neck bending. This style construction is too bulky for very small parrots such as Budgies, Lovebirds, Parrotlets, and Green-Cheek Conures. We do not offer a smaller size in this style.
Between sizes? If your bird weighs around 450 grams, consider its neck length and body proportions before choosing. The collar needs enough thickness to limit bending without interfering with normal movement.

Step 2: Check the Bird Species Size Guide

These are common starting sizes for popular companion parrots. Confirm the size using your bird's actual weight and neck measurements.

African Grey Medium
Amazon Parrot Medium–Large
Eclectus Parrot Medium–Large
Goffin's Cockatoo Medium
Moluccan Cockatoo Large*
Umbrella Cockatoo Large

*Large Moluccan Cockatoos may exceed the recommended weight range. Contact us before ordering if your bird weighs more than 850 grams.

Species recommendations are approximate. Your bird's weight, neck circumference, and ability to bend around the collar are more important than species alone.

Step 3: Confirm the Neck Wrap Measurements

Unlike a cone collar, the Fringy Neck Wrap sits around the neck. Its 8–10 layers of thick fleece build up the collar's height and thickness, gently limiting how far your bird can bend toward its chest, shoulders, and underwings.

A semi-stiff Pellon insert at the base helps support the layers and maintain the collar's shape.

Size Wrap Height Wrap Length Fleece Layers
Medium 1.5" 8.75" 10
Large 2.5" 9" 10

Measurements describe the flat collar before fastening. They are not the bird's neck circumference. The adjustable closure allows the wrap to overlap for fitting.

What matters most is the fit. The collar should fit comfortably around the neck without restricting breathing, swallowing, or normal crop expansion. Check that your bird can eat, drink, perch, and balance comfortably while wearing it.
