These collars are great for feather plucking and mutilation. They are lightweight and easily tolerated by the bird. My parrot can do everything that she normally would do with this collar on. This collar was recommended by my avian vet and it weighs less than half of what the fabric type collars weigh! It seems to me that the heavy weight of a fabric collar could cause strain on the bird's neck and put extra pressure on the bird's feet. My parrot wears a second collar made out of pipe insulation, wrapped with paper tape and held on with a wide piece of masking tape. The second collar is worn underneath of the E collar and it lifts the E collar up to make her neck less vulnerable to plucking. It also makes the E collar do a better job of preventing feather plucking and mutilation. This combination of the 2 collars used together was recommended by my avian vet and it works very well. I highly recommend this set up for birds who pluck and mutilate. Plucking became a habit for my bird after she developed food allergies.

My vet stated it will work but he used a size s for my quaker, cut the skirt portion and added umbilical tape to cover the edges and create distraction tabs. I order size d's based on your sizing chart. He weighs 94 grams.

Pay special attention to the shipping guarantee and time zones if you're going to pay for premium shipping.
Response time with product questions was initially slow, but the feedback I did get was helpful.
The product is what you'd expect. My vet was part of my issues but the sizing chart seems to be okay.
Would I buy from this company again?
Yes. They are a good company with decent products.

I love the idea of the collar and everything, I paid for fast shipping but sadly didn’t arrive on time ( you can guess the sad news ) I will save it for my future bird with this issue :(

My parrot is a habitual plucker who has mutilated very badly in the past. This collar was prescribed for her by an avian vet and she wears a second collar (made of pipe insulation) underneath the e-collar. This combination works well for her. These collars can be difficult to find and you need to have the correct size for your bird. This collar was literally a life saver! I remove the collars for bathing and preening. Once a parrot is a habitual plucker, the habbit usually never changes and you'll most likely always need a collar for your bird. You should always work with an avian vet or someone who has experience when getting your bird to accept wearing collars for its own protection.

The neck edge on the collar was quickly chewed by my bird. I managed to sew a 1/2" soft fabric collar over it and it's much better now. Also some snaps do not align right and I put duct tape to make sure the one neck snap stays closed. The collar has kept her from further chewing.

I rescued Guava from the Humane Society. They said he had been plucking and mutilating himself for quite some time. He was also bullied by his previous flock family. I brought him home and he was accepted immediately by my birds. He did not pluck immediately but after 1 month I noticed he started plucking and even mutilating. This helped then I also got the unplucked herbal supplement. So far he’s doing good. And he’s getting his feathers coming back in.

Good quality was just too heavy
The quality of the collar was great! I followed the size guide and bought the one that fit my Cockatiel but when I put it on him it was too heavy so he isn't able to use it.

Item exactly as described. Fitted well. Got my money's worth, thank you.

This collar saved me and my bird
I had a good experience with this collar overall. Not to mention, I needed this because my indian ring had injured his foot and had taken off the dry scab like a child and ended losing a lot of blood in the process. Birdsupplies was very helpful in overnighting this collar to me. When I placed on him, he hated it. When his foot got worse cause he would quit picking and chewing off the scab plus his own flesh, I took this collar with me to the ER. In short, even the vet doctor said he liked this collar than the animal hospital's because of the clips. Grabbed kiwi and sent me away for the day. Picked him up at the end of the day and no more screaming, he got accustomed to it. Heads up and tip: buy 2 to start out with. Even the vet said that he would most likely chew at it. The pics provided is the hem of a t-shirt I had sewn on myself to lengthen the inner part of the collar. I had sewn it on after he bit off the black foam but had already ordered another collar and did the same. Overall, I'm happy with it. Being that I found a way to pro-long the life of the inner collar, it's great for me. (Old brown t-shirt hem and new green one after I cleaned collar and re-did sewing.)

The only one my bird keeps on
This cone is the only one that my Goffin keeps on. She knows hot to take all of the other ones off. She has broken some of it but as long as it stays on I am ok with it. I got the size 406xs and it fits fine. I have only two of the snaps snapped so if I needed to I could snap the third.

Great product
I have tried several fleece collars but my parrot hated them. She wears this at night while her feathers regrow.

So far...
...the proper size Saf-T Shield fits closely enough that my bird can't get her beak into the neck opening to chew it off. Keeping my fingers crossed.

they are working well I like them

Sugar & I liked this one. It is nice and light and transparent so I can see her but she has gotten hold of the black padding and chewed it half off. It may be better used as a cone in the other direction but I'm now trying to figure out how to sew some sort of padding on the neck so the sharp edge isn't against her skin.

Saf-T Shield Bird E-Collar
the collar fits our Goffin cockatoo great. she had plucked herself almost completely featherless putting herself in real danger of bleeding to death or freezing. she now has almost all her feathers back. even though she did chew at the shield it was still very durable

Works Well
I purchased this for my Goffin Cockatoo who had a chest injury. He was unable to open the snaps. Please know you may have to buy multiple of this product though, because those little beaks do damage to the cone when they pick at the neck area. Mine lasted about two weeks before I ordered a new one. And as with any cone, my little guys movement was limited so all perches, bowls and toys were put on one level for him to get to. A good temporary solution.

It's a great cone and was as expected, but my cockatoo absolutely hates it. I have put it on him twice without something over top and I don't know if its the shine off of it or it being see-through but he starts freaking out and rolling around on the ground which then makes it hard to get off of him. Very scary, but after putting something over it before putting it on him he was fine. All birds are different, this is the only cone he's had a bad reaction to.

bird collar
my Moluccan cockatoo has been a feather picker and sometimes picks a wound in her skin.
under her avian vet’s care she wears a collar for the time it takes to heal the wound. in addition she sometimes prescribed medication as well.
i was very glad to find her size at birdsupplies.com. the collar works very well to prevent more picking.

Almost perfect
Trying yo keep my African Grey from reaching her tail feathers. The 8’ diameter is still too short..otherwise it fits and works perfectly to prevent plucking in other areas.

It took my male eclectus parrot two minutes to get his beak inside the part of the collar that goes around the neck and destroy the black band and create sharp plastic piece that stuck into his neck. This part of the collar needs to be improved. I'm disappointed because I probably can not return it. It wasn't cheep.
