  • PRODUCT DETAILS

    • The thick design prevents most birds from reaching feathers, injuries, or post-surgical wounds.
    • Provides a comfortable alternative to a cone and allows normal eating, drinking, playing, and climbing.
    • Stabilizes the neck to prevent your bird from bending and reaching preferred plucking areas.
    • Peripheral vision remains intact.
    • Birds chew on the fringes rather than their own feathers!
    • Made right here in the USA 🇺🇸

Bird collars can be your feather plucker's best friend. Consider the Fringy Cone Bird Collar because it has been designed by veterinarians to protect bald, feather plucking birds as well as those who suffer from self-mutilation. With this collar, you'll get the best of both worlds - protection and gentle restraint.

The Fringy Cone Bird Collar Supports These Areas

    • The wings - top, underside & shoulders
    • The vent area
    • Feet or legs
    • Chest or back
    • Surgery or injury recovery

Our Fringy Cone Bird Collar features a semi-stiff base so that it flanges out from the body. Plus, it has thick layers of soft fleece around the neck to support zealous chewers toward healing.

If your bird is in a weakened state of health or under-weight this is NOT the appropriate collar. Talk with your vet to make sure.

  • PUTTING THE COLLAR ON

This may be a two-person job. If you can't handle your bird, then you should have your vet help you.

    1. Examine the size of the neck hole to determine if you need to trim it to fit. Neck holes are intentionally made small because you can always trim one to fit if it is too small but if the neck hole is too big, the collar would not protect your bird. See FAQ

    2. Sit on the floor with your knees in front of you.

    3. Place your bird in between your legs with the beak pointing away from you.

    4. One person may need to hold the head stabilizing the jaw to prevent a bite.

    5. Now, attach the back velcro.

    6. If your bird is a known chewer, which most mutilators are, use Moleskin to secure the velcro closures.

ALWAYS observe your bird for a few days to make sure that it can get around and go about its daily activities like walking, eating, and playing.

Every bird reacts differently to wearing a bird collar. Some birds throw a fit while others act like they are frozen.

Either way, it is up to you to lavishly reward and reinforce "normal" parrot behavior and ignore the "fits." If your bird acts frozen, as if it can't move or eat, gently show it that it can walk, eat, and play in a bird collar.

Be persistent! Give your pet plenty of treats and favorite toys when it is leaving the collar alone. Also, reward normal parrot daily activities like

    ✅ Playing
    ✅ Exploring
    ✅ Exercising

  • PRODUCT SUPPORT

Trim To FitThis collar is designed so you can cut down both the neck hole and the perimeter to fit your bird.

Please be advised: Birds that habitually pluck or mutilate themselves and those that have had this habit for a long time need more training and time to adapt to a bird collar.

While about 80% of people experience success with our bird collars we do not guarantee that a bird will adapt to a bird collar, that they'll like it, or that they can't remove the collar.

Washing: The Velcro Closure bird collar is easy to clean and maintain. Just wash in mild soapy water and lay flat to dry.

Keeping The Collar On: Because plucking can turn into a nasty habit, some birds learn to unhook the hook-and-loop collar. One strategy is to spray the collar with a bitter-tasting spray to deter your bird. Another strategy is to use moleskin on the underside to hold the two sides together.

Plan to support acceptance with these strategies:

    1. Spray the bird collar with a bird-safe bitter spray like Bitter Apple Or Bitter Yuk.

    2. After placing the collar on the bird, stabilize the hook and loop closure by placing a strip of Moleskin or duct tape on the underside where the two sides overlap.

HOW Bird Collars Help

UnRuffledRx Soft Bird Collars are the first line of defense for stopping feather plucking because they interrupt the plucking cycle. The more severe your bird’s plucking, the thicker and stiffer the collar it will need. Most birds need time to adjust to a bird collar.

Bird collars are part of a range of wellness products that support feather pluckers. They work while you work on improving your pet's diet, improve parrot husbandry, and start using behavior modification.

How do I collar train my bird?

If your bird is new to wearing a collar you'll have to train it to both accept the collar and not chew up the collar. Clicker training is the solution of choice. Watch my YouTube Video here: https://youtu.be/ubm2BCNH5LE

How do I choose the best collar style for my bird?
What size do I need?

On the order page, look for the orange colored SIZE GUIDE right by the product price.

Most collars come in 5-7 sizes based on the birds weight in grams. If you don't have a gram scale, you can purchase one online. Amazon tends to be the most affordable place. You don't need a specialized bird scale, it just has to weigh in grams.

Your avian vet should have a weight on file, too.
